About the Fund
There are innumerable disparities between those who live in communities that are largely non-white and those who live in communities that are largely white. The Black Community Focus Fund is about “Getting to Zero” on disparities that, specifically because of historical racism, leave Black Rochesterians short of so many opportunities, ranging from employment, to education, to availability of neighborhood services.

Black people are 6.875x more likely to be arrested than White people in Monroe County
Black unemployment rate is 15.6% in Rochester versus White unemployment rate of 6.5% in Rochester
How You Can Help
Buy a Brick for the Civil Rights Legacy Walkway
Our goal is to sell 1,000 bricks. You can purchase a brick with the name of your loved one, a famous person or someone important to you who is/was active in the Black Freedom struggle for Civil Rights as a:
- “Freedom Fighter” ($500 level)
- “Truth Teller” ($300 level)
- “Voice for Justice” ($200 level)

Volunteer
We need volunteers to knock on doors, assist in organizing community meetings, and help us get the word out

We need partners including faith communities, nonprofits, businesses, and government organizations.
